When UrbanExcess.com opened a shop on Kingsland Road in 2011, they took over a bleak white office space. After a successful year's trading it was time to get comfortable and fit the store with a design scheme that was a little more appropriate for the brand; young, streetwise, stylish.

Playing on the gritty urban scenes of local basketball courts, and the deep cavernous nature of the space, we put together a design that draws on the form and texture from the surrounding environment - bare steel fenceposts, weld-mesh, scaffold planks - with spotlights to pick out details in the collection, replacing the the stark, offensive fluorescents that had been before.
