Gin has played a large and often controversial role in London's rise through the Centuries. This mechanical mural animates that rich cultural tale for a three day installation in Covent Garden. The journey starts at the ascension of William and Mary in 1688, winds through the debauched early 18th century, the industrial Victorian era, stylish Modern Jazz clubs of the 20s, swinging 60s and ends today at the opening of Beefeater's visitors' centre in Kennington.
This was a Bad Marriage Design (BMD) project for which I lead the design and construction team, and developed the moving elements that bring the story to life.
The whole project, from conceptualisation to install on site was completed in five weeks, which given the complexity of the mechanisms and the ambition of the task, was no small achievement.
